The Edot collection is inspired by the Japanese Ise Katagami stencil patterns of the Edo (pronounced EH-doh) period, 1615-1868. Version 1.0 was a modern take on these repeating patterns. In this iteration, I wanted the flat patterns to take form again as they would have on the textiles they were originally designed for. By only filling in some dots or dashes in a repeating block and then filling in more in a different area, different parts of the pattern can be highlighted, especially with the use of an accent colour. These choices are made to attempt to create a dimension and flow from the patterns that would have originally been accomplished through garment design.
